2nd REGIONAL GENERAL PUBLIC SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY MODEL COMPETITION (GPSMC)
Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST), NWFP is making concerted efforts to promote Science and Technology (S&T) in NWFP. The best way to popularize and promote S&T is to target and sensitize the fertile brains. Organizing Science Model Competition is to provide opportunities to the general public to test their creativity, knowledge and scientific genius and benefit the society at large.
In a quest to identify and promote people with extraordinary talent for developing S&T, the DoST has initiated the idea of holding General Public Science & Technology Competitions (GPSTC) throughout the province.
In this regard 1st regional GPSTC has successfully been organized in Peshawar from 27th to 28th June 2008. People from all walks of life participated in the competition with enthusiasm and the winners were awarded with cash prizes, Trophies and certificates.
In the next phase, the 2nd GPSTC was organized for Hazara from 26th to 27th August,2008 at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad
People from all walks of life at all levels were invited to participate in the competition. The response of the people in this regard was very enthusiastic and encouraging.
The DoST received 125 entries, out of which 107 projects were displayed during the competition. Most of the projects displayed belonged to the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Biological Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science.
The chief guest of the opening ceremony was Mr. Rashid Ahamed Secretary Science & technology and Information Technology Government of NWFP.
On 27th August, 2008 prize distribution ceremony was held in the main auditorium of COSATS Institute of Infromation Technology Abbotta abad. Mr. Rashid Ahamed Secretary Science & technology and Information Technology Government of NWFP was the Chief Guest of the event.
In his welcome address, Mr. Khalid Khan, director DoST informed the audience about the objectives of holding the GPSMC. He appreciated the efforts and support of the individuals and organizations such as Physics deptt: Hazara University and COMSATS Abbottabad that made the event successfull. He also informed that all the regional competitions will conclude at a grand finale that will include winners of all the four regional competitions.
Mr. Rashid Ahamed Secretary Science & technology and Information Technology Government of NWFP, appreciated the efforts of the DoST and stressed upon the need for consistent holding such healthy competitions that plays important role in sensitizing the public about the importance of S&T.
The president of the occasions Mr. ______ Director COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad announced that all the three Grand winners will be awarded Gold Medals on behalf of COMSATS and if any person from the Hazara region became able to be a winner in the grand finale, he will also be given gold Medal by the COMSATS Abbottabad.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Chief guest gave away prizes to the winners of various categories. Among the Grand Winners of the competition Mr Raja Ahsan, Pak Turk Intentional school Peshawar got the 1sy prize, Mr Ahmad Bilal, COMSATS Institute of IT Abbottabad got the 2nd prize and Mr Aftab Alam Hazara university, Mansehra campus received the 3rd prize.
