Report on 2nd STC held at Archives Auditorium Peshawar from 3rd December 2008 to 5th December 2008
2nd Science & Technology Model Competition ( Peshawar region):
The 2 ND regional Science and Technology competition was held from 3 rd December 2008 to 4 th December 2008 . The venue selected for this competition was main Auditorium Archives Library Peshawar. The competition was organized for the students of class 9 th to 12 th or equivalent classes of schools, colleges and Polytechnic colleges of Peshawar region.
The participants invited for the competition belonged to five central districts of NWFP (i.e. Peshawar , Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Charsadda). It is important to mention that orientation workshops for this competition were already organized from the months of February, 2008 to April 2008, in which 726 students and 262 teachers of the above cited districts participated. 726 numbers of copies of the booklet on “Standard Research Methodologies” were distributed among the students/teachers in the orientation workshops and 1,454 numbers of booklets were sent to 1,404 schools who could not attend the orientations for some reasons.
On the opening day i.e. 3 rd December, 2008 the participants started their arrival. They were welcomed on the registration desk by the relevant staff of the DoST and Intel Education Pakistan. In total 145 standard projects were registered and exhibited by 279 students in individual and Team capacity.
Mr. Ayub Ashari, Provincial Minister for Science & Technology and Information Technology was the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony the Minister S&T and IT NWFP visited various stalls and was briefed by the students about their efforts. The minister took deep interest and appreciated the efforts of the students.
Meanwhile members of the “Scientific Review Committee” initiated the evaluation of the projects in order to decide winners of the competition. After a thorough evaluation, the committee handed over their decisions to the organizers.
On the 2 nd day of the event i.e. 4 th December, the venue was visited by students from local schools & colleges. Besides students from non participating schools a number of dignitaries graced the occasion especially the award ceremony. The visitors and competitors shared i deas, concepts and solutions among them.
The prize distribution of the 2 nd STC for Peshawar region was held in the afternoon of the 4 th December in the main auditorium of the Archives Library. Mr. Jafer Shah Member Provincial Assembly NWFP was the chief guest of the event. Mr. Rashid Ahmad, Secretary Science & Technology and Information Technology and Mr. Mohammed Arifin Secretary Schools and Elementary Education NWFP also graced the occasion with their presence.
The names of winners of the 2 nd STC for Peshawar region were announced and the Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the winners. The following students declared as winners in their respective categories,

Meanwhile, winners of the 1 st regional competition arrived from various districts of Hazara region. They were registered and allotted stalls and they started preparation for taking participation in the “Intel provincial Olympiad” that was going to be held among the winners of the Hazara and Peshawar regional competitions.
In the evening of 4 th December the SRC started evaluation of the projects exhibited by the finalists of the Peshawar and Hazara region. After completion of their evaluation they handed over the discisions to the organizers.
The 5 th December was the final day of the “Intel provincial Olympiad”. The Chief guest was provincial Minister for higher education Qazi Muhammad Asad. After his arrival the honorable minister visited the stall of the students leaded in alongwith Mr. Azmat Hanif Orakzai, Sectary for Higher Education NWFP.
Mr. Qazi Muhammad Asad went to each stall, discussed and appreciated efforts of the students as this is the step toward knowledge based society. After this he award distribution ceremony started and the winners were awarded with medals and certificates by the honorable minister Qazi Muhammad Asad.
It is important to mention here that the winners of the “Intel Provincial Olympiad” will participate “Intel National Olympiad” that will be held in January 2009 in Islamabad .
Winners of the “Intel National Olympiad” will be sent to USA to participate in “International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF)” that will be held in May, 2009. More that 12,00 students from 40 countries will participate in this fair. There is US 3 million to be won which includes scholarships, tution grants, internships, field trips and a grant prize.
